Twitter has unveiled a new branding for all its assets, the bird.
The original twitter bird “Larry” (named after US basketball star Larry Bird) has had a haircut, slimmed down and is now flying upwards. It’s fair to say, most people won’t notice the difference. However for Twitter the new streamlined upward facing bird symbolises the ambition and momentum underpinning the business.
Even the likes of facebook and YouTube have never tried to brand themselves with just an image, the name is always in there, even if just the first letter. This is a bold move by twitter, and shows how ingratiated the brand has become into our digital lives that it feels it no longer even needs to display a name.
Myspace is the only other social media brand to try anything like this, and that was by removing the ‘space’ and leaving the underscore in its place…they soon reverted back.
Back in the real world, the biggest change we are all likely to face is the necessity to amend the relevant logo on presentations, websites, proposals…
Long live Larry
